Chapter Philanthropy

The Zeta Phi Chapter here at Princeton supports Kappa Kappa Gamma’s two philanthropic organizations – Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) and the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation.

RIF is the largest children’s literacy nonprofit in the United States. They prepare and motivate children to read by delivering free books and literacy resources to those children and families who need them most. As students, we are well aware of the joys and value of reading and look forward to celebrating and continuing KKG’s ten-year partnership with RIF this year.

The mission of the KKG Foundation is to enhance the lives of Kappa women, and therefore their communities, by providing funds for educational programs, scholarships, financial aid, and the preservation of Kappa heritage within the context of women’s history. Being a part of the Zeta Phi chapter has been a positive and empowering experience for us and we want to provide the same sisterhood and support we received as members to future or alumni sisters who are in need.

Over the past year the Zeta Phi Chapter has held various fundraisers and evens for both of these organizations. We volunteered at Read, Record, Replay’s Recordathon where we welcomed volunteers and helped them record books to create crowdsourced audiobooks on an online library. The books read were then distributed to local elementary schools for students to learn to read with an engaging, personal touch. This organization was started by one of our own members of the Zeta Phi Chapter, Deanna Zhu and fit in well with Kappa’s literacy philanthropy.

We then had an event with Lilly Pulitzer in town in which a percentage of the sales from the shopping spree went to RIF and the KKG Foundation. We finished the year off with PowderPuff’s bake sale!

This year, we performed beta testing for a phone application called Cinch. After a two weeks of using the app we answered a few questions about our experience – for every member that participated Cinch donated to RIF or the KKG Foundation. The fundraiser was a fun and easy way to get the entire chapter involved in philanthropy and was a great success!
